Leesburg Area

Lake County and the City of Leesburg, Florida offer the visitor and resident opportunities to participate in local activities such as art and craft festivals and various holiday festivals. Cities compete to maintain a small town atmosphere while providing city services.  Lake County, as its name implies, has a not of natural lakes and offers abundant boating and fishing options; there is a public boat ramp into Lake Harris just a few miles north of Legacy of Leesburg.

Legacy of Leesburg, a young community, is positioned to take advantage of the central Florida region while providing a small (999 homes) community for the active adult, although participation in actives is optional.

Lake County has many rural areas, yet is centrally located for day trips to the Atlantic coast and also the Gulf coast.  The active adult can enjoy frequent visits to Orlando attractions such as Walt Disney World (52 minutes from Legacy to WDW parking space), Sea World, and Universal. Orlando also promotes art.

It is only a short drive north to The Villages and Marion County where one can spend hours at the Market of Marion flea market with some produce and small businesses.  Activities on the open market squares of The Villages are open to all; The Villages also has a variety of restaurants open to the public.

As for flea markets, the Webster Flea Market in Sumter County requires many hours to visit–and a lot of patience. It also has a large selection of farm-fresh produce. It is open only on Mondays; it is important to arrive early to get a reasonable parking spot.

Just a short drive east to Mount Dora, Renninger’s Twin Markets Antique and Flea Markets is open Saturdays and Sundays. Some of the flea market is air conditioned while some is just covered. Fresh produce is available.  Inside there is even a fresh seafood vendor (really good quality), Steve’s Fresh Seafood. Downtown Mount Dora, with it’s hills and trees resembles a more northern town; Mount Dora puts on a fine Christmas lighting show.

Leesburg also has it’s own downtown charm with small shops and eateries.
